Complaint Review: Companion Life Insurance Company
Companion Life Insurance Company 1st MedSTM, Health Insurance Innovations, Co-ordinated Benefit Plands, LLC Documents not consitent, Insurance Name is not recognized by hospital or dr’s office California
A name not known to many, or any.
I didn’t have a chance to double-check when I signed up with this company. At the time, the agent brought up the Supplemental Coverage idea and I found competitive compared to Cobra. Plus I needed to be covered while being independent contractor. I had independent coverage for the first time, for just 4-months on short term and did it without further research. I didn”t get to use much, but when I made appointments with my doctors’ office, none of the names on their documents could match. Listed on their document are: 1st MedSTM, Companion Life Insurance Company, pre-Certification for Hospital Confinement or Surgery, Co-ordinated Benefit Plans, Health Insurance Innovation, Hiiquotecustomers.com, Kare360, MedSense Guaranteed Association (MSGA),…
They claimed my PCP was/is/should be in their network, but my PCP can’t even match a name or a group ID or the claim address. The true Companion Life has different PO Box # on the address. They use a different PO Box address, but same zip code as the true Companion Life. On any popular list of Health Insurance Companies, I cannot locate/find/select/populate “1st MedSTM” or “Companion Life”.
I don’t see the consistency across, from the website to the documents. I felt this is a illegitimate business, a health insurance scam. Accidential Supplemental coverage is a waste. I had the not-expensive coverage for a healthy person but I believe their cost was just a setup, documents or insurance cards are some piece of junk papers. Watch out consumers while Health Insurance is now deregulated.

I went online to get some quotes for insurance when I lost my insurance. I got a phone call from a man named Jeff. He told me about this wonderful “insurance plan” that would give me insurance, covered my doctors, prescriptions were only $10 for generic and tier levels were used for brand names, etc. I swallowed it hook line and sinker. What a fool. I was not happy with the things I was to agree that I understood on a recording and I should have just said forget it there. Then, I got my plan details in my email and as I read them, I was shocked. This wasn’t even insurance, just a discount services plan and NONE of my doctors were listed. Additionally, all but one of my generic medications were in their highest tier at $50+ per refill. I was so mad at myself. I didn’t look into it like I should have. The guy I talked to when I enrolled gave me his extension number and asked me to call him if I had any questions, but when I called I was informed I would not be able to talk to him and I would have to talk to her. I cancelled the service and got the run around asking for a cancellation confirmation. I now show the refund but have never received anything to say the service has been cancelled. Now that i have read other reports on here about them, I am glad i got out in the beginning. I would not sign with this company at all if I were you.

My husband just retired and we aren’t eligible for medicare, so I went shopping on the net for help. There they were very geared up to help me and take my money. I have pre existing the plan sounded right and so did the price. Come to find out not one of my doctor’s knew who they were. I can’t get a refund, I can’t even get anyone to call me to cancel. I am so embarrassed that I let them get me, but they only got me for a month. i just hope they don’t get more from anyone else. This is a discount group not health insurance. With their discounts plus premium every month I’m better off being uninsured.
They sent me lots of literature but it never came from the same place nor had the same companies names. Each piece and card had a different company. i didn’t know which way to go.
